“Greetings, brothers and sisters in Christ!

I’m Jason Burnham, and I serve as Conference Superintendent of the Trinity Conference. I’m joining you today to share an important update with the Faith Methodist family.

Your pastor, Rev. David Dorn, has received an appointment to serve as the next Senior Pastor of Trinity Methodist Church in Ruston, Louisiana, effective September 1.

I know this may be difficult news to receive. In the Global Methodist Church, pastors and congregations commit to one another through our collaborative appointive process, seeking together to follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit. In a moment, David will share a brief testimony of how the Lord has led him to this point. Before he does, let me offer two brief notes.

First, David begins a previously scheduled sabbatical this week. These plans were established long before any conversations regarding this appointment began. Please join me in praying that this will be a season of rest, renewal, and blessing for David and his family, and we look forward to his return later this summer.

Second, I have already met with your SPRC along with your Presiding Elder Rev. Sharon Sabom, and together we have taken the first steps in the important process of discerning who God may be calling to serve as Faith’s next senior pastor. Your SPRC understands its role in that process and will be working closely with the Cabinet in the weeks and months ahead.

I invite you to pray for David and his family, for your SPRC, and for the pastor God is already preparing for the next season of ministry at Faith.

“Exactly one year ago, Jason Burnham called me to consider applying for the Trinity Methodist Church in Ruston, LA. Without hesitation, I turned him down on the phone. I later told Aimee about that phone call and she remarked, “you didn’t even ask me.” I didn’t. At the time I was confident this was where God wanted us.

When Jason called me 4 weeks ago to once again ask me to consider Trinity Methodist Church in Ruston, LA, I knew I needed to pursue God with this. In ministry, it’s very rare for an opportunity of this magnitude to come your way twice. Aimee and I went and visited with the leadership of Trinity a few weeks ago and felt an overwhelming sense of peace and calling to that city and that church.

This entire year, I’ve preached about living out of obedience to God. Little did I know living in obedience was going to lead our family away from Texas. But we are excited to take on this huge opportunity, to step out of the boat and see what God has in store for us.

So we leave on sabbatical after we walk out of here today. That’s been works for 6 months. I’ll be back in August to preach my final 4 weeks as your Senior Pastor and then we move to Ruston for September 1. I am still working on a Bible study for the church through 1 & 2 Samuel or any groups who would like to use it. But we are going to be praying for Faith’s future this summer, that God would send the right person to lead you into this next season.

It has been a privilege to lead you for the last 6 years. It’s not been easy. This past year has been quite difficult. But God is good. And God has things in store for you and for us. I’m excited to see what’s next.”
